JP Creative Works Portfolio

My Portfolio

I build work that makes people feel something, seen, proud, invited in. Whether it’s a website that feels effortless, a catalog that clarifies the path, or a film that turns policy into story, my goal is the same: craft with care. Every project below starts with empathy and ends with something useful, beautiful, and easy to use.

Alvernon Donuts

Alvernon Donuts

Alvernon Donuts
Although this project was submitted as part of my SheCodes curriculum, I chose to go beyond the assignment’s generic guidelines and design a site for a real local business—Alvernon Donuts. The business didn’t have a website, and I saw an opportunity to create something useful while pushing myself to apply real-world thinking. I handled the layout, styling, and responsive development using HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap, focusing on user experience and visual clarity. This project not only helped me fulfill the SheCodes criteria but also allowed me to approach web development from a more authentic, community-centered perspective.

AI Guidelines for School District

TUSD AI Guidelines

TUSD AI Guideslines
This site redesign project was created as part of Tucson Unified School District’s AI Taskforce. The original page lacked structure and clarity, so I took the initiative to rebuild it with a cleaner layout and unified messaging to better educate staff and families about AI.

What's the Weather App

What's the Weather App

What's the Weather App
For this SheCodes assignment, I challenged myself to integrate a third-party API from Weatherbit.io that was beyond what was offered in the curriculum. I also reimagined the typical weather app layout by designing a curved, window-like interface to simulate the experience of looking out at the weather.

I Am Affirmations with AI

I Am Affirmations with AI
Built as part of a SheCodes assignment where we were free to apply an AI platform however we chose. I focused on creating an uplifting experience that could make someone’s day better. I structured context and designed clear prompts to implement AI for consistent results, added a typewriter-style animation to deliver affirmations with intention, and selected a calming color palette to support the positive tone.

Time Globe

Time Globe

Time Globe
Time Globe was a focused JavaScript project designed to display live, location-specific time across multiple cities. I implemented both moment.js and moment-timezone to handle real-time updates and international time zones. My biggest challenge was integrating the dynamic time updates with user interaction, but solving it helped sharpen my understanding of asynchronous behavior in JavaScript and DOM manipulation. The sleek, responsive interface also reflects my dedication to clean, functional design.

JPs Feathered Friends Aviary Website

JP's Feathered Friends

JP's Feathered Friends
This is a passion project turned professional site, built to support my aviary business and showcase my creative coding style. I designed a fully responsive layout that works seamlessly across devices and implemented SEO best practices to help the site perform well in search engines. The site also features original vector artwork of my Green Cheek Conures, Sherbert and Einstein, created in Adobe Illustrator to give the brand a playful and personal touch.

Python AI Travel Planner

AI Travel Planner

AI Travel Planner
AI Travel Planner was developed in Google Colab using Python and SheCodes AI integration. The project generates a personalized travel itinerary based on user responses, including destination, dates, and budget, and returns estimated costs, weather, and transportation options. Users interact with the notebook by clicking “Run” and answering prompts. One key challenge was ensuring consistency across a wide range of destinations. This project strengthened my skills in Python and deepened my interest in using code to solve real-world problems.

React.JS Weather API

React.JS Weather App

React.JS Weather App
This was my first successful deployment of a React.JS Website with working Weather API. I customized it to toggle between celcius and fahrenheit. This project deepened my skills in API integration and React coding.

Global Covid Plot Graph with Python

Global COVID Plot Graph

Global COVID Plot Graph
a Python project hosted on Replit, where I gathered and analyzed global COVID-19 data. I used Python’s plotting libraries to visualize the data and highlight international trends. Users can run the script and view the results in a separate console window. This project reflects my interest in meaningful data storytelling and using Python for real-world impact.

MMPD Intro/Outro Redesign
This bold new intro/outro package reintroduces the Multimedia Professional Development brand with motion graphics, symbolic visuals, and a custom soundtrack—all crafted to break the mold of traditional PD. From a shattered play button over DNA strands to a cosmic journey through modern learning, every element was intentionally designed to reflect connection, creativity, and growth. This isn’t just a rebrand—it’s a visual manifesto for how we move forward.

Riley Redd and Wally Wormwood: Animated Communication
I pitched and developed Riley Redd, a fully animated spokesperson inspired by the TUSD apple logo, to help transform district communication. Designed and rigged in Adobe tools, Riley—along with their clever sidekick Wally Wormwood—adds personality, clarity, and warmth to announcements and trainings. Built entirely on my own time, this project shows how existing tools can be used creatively to connect with staff and students in a fresh, engaging way.

TUSD Annual Mandatory Trainings Playlist
This series of six mandatory training videos was my first major district-wide project for Tucson Unified. Originally refreshed with a modern blue background, I led the redesign, editing, and motion graphics using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. For the past three years, I’ve updated the content annually to reflect current policies and branding, ensuring consistency and clarity across all departments. These videos are viewed by over 8,500 teachers, staff, and administrators each school year and are tied to mandatory compliance credit—making them one of the most widely viewed productions in the district.

OMA Promotional Video: Creative B-Roll Cinematography
For this district-wide promotional video for Opening Minds through the Arts (OMA), I served as the primary B-roll cinematographer. Working with limited gear, I manually focused and framed each shot to highlight the energy and creativity of the classroom scenes. Many of the smooth sliding and zooming shots were captured using improvised techniques—gliding the camera on student chairs across carpet, or sliding it on napkins and books over desks. This hands-on, resourceful approach allowed me to produce polished, intentional visuals that bring the OMA experience to life without relying on high-end equipment.

CharacterStrong Promo: Creative Direction
This promotional video was created to highlight the benefits of CharacterStrong, supporting Social Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives within Tucson Unified. I took the lead on creative direction—guiding the visual storytelling, interview flow, and shot composition to highlight how art integration fosters emotional growth and student connection. I used Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to edit and polish the final piece, blending impactful footage with thoughtful pacing and transitions. This project reflects my ability to shape promotional content that resonates deeply, showcases district programs, and communicates the heart of student-centered learning.

Mission View Elementary Dual Language Program Promo
This was the very first promotional video I created for Tucson Unified, spotlighting one of our Dual Language Magnet Schools. I led the entire creative direction and post-production editing, while collaborating with a team of videographers to capture B-roll and conduct interviews. I personally mic’d up students and staff, asked guided questions, and oversaw the shoot from concept to final cut. This project marked the beginning of my journey as a Multimedia Specialist at TUSD and reflects the storytelling instincts and technical skills I’ve continued to build upon ever since. From scripting to sound design, this piece set the tone for the work I strive to do.

Program and Catalog Design

This collection showcases a series of professionally designed catalogs and programs created for Tucson Unified School District, each tailored to elevate communication, celebrate milestones, and streamline professional learning. Using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Express, I crafted both print-ready and digital versions that are visually compelling, highly functional, and deeply aligned with each project’s purpose. These catalogs and programs were created in collaboration with various departments and often under tight deadlines, highlighting my adaptability, cross-functional communication, and design strategy.

Each interactive flipbook below is hosted through Heyzine and is fully navigable. You can flip through pages by tapping, clicking or clicking and dragging the page corners, if on a computer you can also use your arrow keys. At the bottom of each design, you can drag the slider bar at the bottom for quick navigation, or enter fullscreen mode for a clearer, immersive experience. Whether printed or viewed digitally, each catalog has been thoughtfully designed for maximum readability, accessibility, and visual impact.

Welcome Back Catalog – Kentucky Derby Theme
One of my proudest design achievements, this catalog was created for TUSD’s annual district-wide administrative kickoff event. Inspired by the Kentucky Derby, I developed a unique visual theme—“Kentucky Derby in the Desert”—blending vintage horse racing aesthetics with the rich tones and culture of the Southwest. The desert-inspired color palette and layout paid homage to Mexican cross-country racing and the symbolic “Triple Crown of Education.”
Designed in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, the catalog was developed for print and distributed to hundreds of district leaders. Despite major last-minute content and schedule changes, I maintained both design integrity and printing deadlines through strategic layout planning and flexible asset management. This project reflects not only my storytelling and branding abilities, but also my ability to pivot quickly under pressure while maintaining a polished, professional result.

Teacher Development Academy Catalog
This catalog was developed to support TUSD’s Teacher Development and Assistance (TDA) program for new educator cohorts. Drawing inspiration from the official TDA logo, I wove branded design elements and colors throughout the layout to maintain visual cohesion and professional appeal. Created using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, this piece was designed for both digital distribution and print. The final product serves as a practical, welcoming resource for new teachers while reinforcing TUSD’s commitment to professional growth and TDA's five pilars of instructional excellence.

Literacy Framework Catalog
Designed with a playful and engaging visual style for a K–5 audience, this catalog highlights the instructional planning and literacy practices used across the district. I used Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Adobe Express to build both print and digital versions, ensuring accessibility for educators and administrators. Shared via Adobe Express for collaborative feedback, the catalog features cheerful patterns and vibrant layouts. I also utilized Adobe AI to rapidly generate age-appropriate vector graphics, helping complete the project under a tight deadline. This piece celebrates the creativity and coordination it takes to support early literacy at scale.

Badger Foundation - 100 Year Commemoration Program
A commemorative print program created for the Badger Foundation's 100-Year Celebration of Tucson High School. Designed using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, this piece honored hundreds of distinguished alumni, guided event attendees through the celebration, highlighted the history of the school, and served as a key fundraising tool for the foundation. It was professionally printed and distributed at the event to celebrate a century of legacy and community impact.

TUSD Professional Learning Course Catalog
Created using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, this dynamic catalog was designed for both print and digital distribution. The digital version included embedded hyperlinks that allowed educators to register directly for courses. I collaborated with over seven departments to curate accurate course descriptions and align offerings with district goals. To enhance representation and engagement, I used AI-generated imagery to reflect the diverse demographics of TUSD staff. This project challenged me to balance accessibility, design consistency, and cross-departmental communication while delivering a versatile and user-friendly resource for professional learning.
